Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I add my first document?
Tap or click the + button in the Library section. You can import a file from your device, take a photo with the camera scanner, or import from Files. On Mac, you can also drag and drop files directly into the library.
-
Why is iCloud sync not working?
First, make sure you are signed in to iCloud and that Oryx has iCloud access enabled. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud and make sure Oryx DMS is turned on. On Mac, go to System Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud and enable Oryx DMS.
If sync still seems slow, iCloud may need a few minutes to propagate changes — especially after adding large documents or a lot of items at once. Ensure all devices are connected to Wi-Fi.
-
How do I scan a document?
Go to the Library section and tap the scan button (camera icon). Hold your device steady over the document — Oryx will automatically detect the edges and capture the page. You can scan multiple pages in one session. Once finished, tap Save and the document will be added to your library and processed with OCR so it becomes searchable.
-
What file types does Oryx support?
Oryx supports PDF, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, and HEIF files for import. Scanned documents are saved as PDF. OCR text extraction works on all supported image-based formats.
-
How do folders and subfolders work?
Folders are the top-level organising unit in Oryx. Each folder can have any number of subfolders. You can assign a contact to a folder (for example, a client), set a status, priority and retention period. Documents are then filed inside subfolders. This lets you group all paperwork for a person or project in one place.
-
How do I print a label?
The label editor is available on Mac. Go to Templates in the sidebar, create or open a template, and use the canvas to design your label. You can add text, barcodes, QR codes, shapes and images. Once ready, click Print to send to any AirPrint-compatible or connected printer. Use dynamic tokens (e.g.
{{document.name}}) to auto-fill fields from document data. -
Can I protect the app with Face ID or a passcode?
Yes. Go to Settings → Privacy inside Oryx and enable biometric lock. When turned on, Oryx will require Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode every time it becomes active. You can also enable the Privacy Screen, which hides your content in the app switcher.
-
How do I delete a document?
On iPhone or iPad, swipe left on a document in the list and tap Delete, or open the document and use the more (…) menu. On Mac, right-click the document and choose Move to Bin. Documents moved to the bin are held for a recovery period before permanent deletion. To permanently delete or restore, go to Library → Bin.
-
How do I export or share a document?
Open the document and tap the share button (the box with an arrow). You can share via AirDrop, Mail, Files, or any other app installed on your device. On Mac, you can also right-click a document in the library to access export options.
-
Where is my data stored? Is it safe?
All your data is stored on your device and in your private iCloud account — not on any server we control. iCloud encrypts data in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption. We have no access to your documents or personal information. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
-
How do I delete all my data?
To remove your Oryx data from iCloud, go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Oryx DMS on iPhone or iPad, then tap Delete Data. To delete local data, delete the app from your device. Because we store nothing on our own servers, this removes all traces of your data.
-
Does Oryx work offline?
Yes. All core features — browsing, viewing, scanning, editing — work fully offline. Changes you make are queued and synced automatically when your device reconnects to the internet.
-
Is there a macOS version?
Yes. Oryx DMS is a universal app — one purchase gives you access on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The Mac version includes the full label editor, a multi-column library browser, and seamless drag-and-drop support. Requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later.
